I really hate to give negative reviews, but it is hard to tell what some items actually look like until you get them. This does make a nice poached egg in about 4 minutes total from cold water. The problem is that the handle is too short. It looks longer in the picture. When I placed this over the gas burner (on low) my hand was far too close to the flame, and my hand got very hot. I tried to use an oven mitt, and even tried a pot handle mitt I have, but they were both too big and bulky for the tiny handle, and way too close to the flame. They would have caught fire. Perhaps other brands of this item have longer handles, but unfortunately I had to send this one back. UPDATE; I found the perfect poacher! Calphalon 4-c.
